I love labyrinths. I think they are incredibly fascinating, they have been found all over the world and many are thousands of years old. They are used by many religions and cultures, its really one of those things that connects us as people. I think labyrinths are such a feminine symbol the rounded paths leading you to her center and back out again.

A labyrinth is meant to guide you, comfort you support you. A maze on the other hand is meant to trick and confuse you. Its very satisfying to meditate with a labyrinth by tracing slowly from the entrance of the labyrinth to the center and back again. using 2labyrinths at the same time can really balance out your brain halves and give a deeper more satisfying meditation. I love giving a labyrinth to my boys to trace with their fingers or with a pencil. It helps with concentration coordination and it gives them a much needed bit of calm and quiet in their day

Labyrinths can be great healing and discovery tools when you combine them with Chakra's. Every arch of the labyrinth is connected to a chakra and has a specific meaning because of that. Check back next week for a chakra labyrinth and an explanation of how to use labyrinths for self exploration.
Labyrinths are available in pretty much any material you can think of and the range in price from a few pounds to thousands of pounds. It is however entirely possible to make a labyrinth yourself. It might look terribly complicated to draw one, but really once you get the hang of drawing one its pretty easy. I've taken pictures of how to draw a classic labyrinth so you can see how one is made step by step:

Now that you know how to draw the basic classic labyrinth you can use your paper copy to meditate or you can use this to make a more fancy looking labyrinth in fabric knitting wood clay glass, whatever you fancy.
